More than 55 million people across the U.S. will be traveling for Thanksgiving, and whether it is a trip out of town or a trip to the grocery store, highway safety officials want drivers and passengers to stay buckled up.

Both New Orleans Police and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office will be taking part in the "Click It or Ticket" campaign from Saturday, November 18 through Saturday, November 25.

"Buckle your seat belt to stay safe and to stay legal," said NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick. "That seat belt may very well mean the difference between life and death."

"Click It or Ticket"is done in cooperation with the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Violators could be fined $50 per incident.
