Traveling in St. Charles Parish has been a pain lately due to the ongoing work on the Hale Boggs Bridge.
Frustrated residents and parish leaders are anxiously awaiting the completion of the work.
St. Charles Parish President Matt Jewell Spoke with WWL’s Tommy Tucker. “The school system as well as the Sheriff’s office has had to make changes to take into account this traffic” he told Tommy.
While the lane closures remain 24/7 the work however does not. According to Parish President Jewell, work on the affected areas is only done between about 7am-5pm. Unfortunately, that means congestion lasts all the time.
Jewell says he has reached out to DOTD to change the work order to ‘round the clock work, however that could mean a heavier price tag.
“I’m not sure why they didn’t look at the 24-hour method of construction to begin with. [My office] has requested that DOTD request a change order and see what the price comes back as and see if they have the money.”
