Local tourism hopes to benefit from lifted COVID regulation

Passengers no longer required to show negative test before boarding U.S.-bound flight

Travelers to the United States no longer have to show a negative COVID test before boarding a flight into the country. Local tourism leaders say it is about time.

You can fly from London straight to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, but when that flight returned after the beginning of the pandemic, passengers had to test negative for COVID, first. Now that it has been lifted, Mark Romig with New Orleans & Company says it will be easier to get those international travelers.

"New Orleans has always been a favorite destination for visitors from around the world, particularly from Europe and Canada," said Romig. "They see New Orleans as the cultural capital of the South."

Romig believes this will help their efforts to lure those travelers back.

"I think this will bode well for the building of that segment of the market back to our industry here," Romig said.
