Governor-elect Jeff Landry's committee on New Orleans has been a hot button issue, especially with local leadership.

New Orleans City Council President J.P. Morrell spoke about the role he hopes the new committee will play, while being cautiously optimistic about its relationship with the city.

“Many of us have taken a wait and see approach. We need to see what resources are going to be offered to us and what strings are attached to it,” he told WWL's Tommy Tucker.

However, he made no bones about New Orleans staying self-governing.

“There are things that we think would be helpful, but the city won’t be micromanaged,” he said.

Council President Morrell says the New Orleans business sector is also in need of the state’s help: “I know a lot of business folks have said they have been really starved for state resources for stuff like infrastructure.”
