Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill is asking a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed against her and LSU by the Southeastern Conference.
The conference filed suit in federal court in Birmingham, Alabama to stop LSU from signing two football players who attended NFL training camps this year. The SEC was also threatening to expel LSU from the conference it helped found in the 1930s if it went through with signing the players.
LSU eventually declined to add the two player in question to their roster.
"While I appreciate attempts by both sides to de-escalate, the SEC has not moved to end the federal lawsuit against LSU or me, as Attorney General," said Murrill. "It is therefore appropriate for me to act in the sovereign interests of the State of Louisiana and move for its dismissal. The case is improper and moot."
