Revenues from Louisiana’s gambling establishments took a dive last month.
Numbers reported by Donna Jackson of the Gaming Division of the Louisiana State Police to the Gaming Control Board showed riverboat gaming saw a 23% decline from December 2023 to January 2024.
The numbers also showed a 17% decline year-over-year from last January.
Total revenues from all riverboat casinos were over $121 million. But while that seems like a lot, they were still down by $26 million from last January’s $147 million total.
Jackson did note that the calendar might have played a part: December 2023 featured five weekends while January 2024 only had four. January 2023 also had five Sundays, so that could account for some of the shortfall along with the frigid weather that forced certain bridges leading to some of the state’s casinos to be closed.
