Gas prices in the New Orleans area have fallen below last year's prices. AAA's daily survey of area gas stations shows average prices a few pennies a gallon less than this time a year ago.
This is also about the time last year that gas prices started coming up as inflation took hold.
"Right around last year, this was the time when we started seeing gas prices creeping up, the end of 2021 in November/December, so it is somewhat meeting in the middle now," said AAA analyst Nick Chabarria. "Certainly some welcome relief at the pump, currently, as gas prices have been declining."
Chabarria says it's mostly oil prices coming down, and lower driver demand.
"And then just lower driving demand as well that we typically see during the winter months here at home," he explained.
