Trombone Shorty and Preservation Hall Jazz Band were two of five Louisiana-based groups that swept the Grammy nominations for Best Regional Roots Music Album.

The full category includes five nominees:

Live at Vaughan’s, Corey Henry & The Treme Funktet
For Fat Man, Preservation Brass & Preservation Hall Jazz Band
Church of New Orleans, Kyle Roussel
Second Line Sunday, Trombone Shorty and New Breed Brass Band
A Tribute to the King of Zydeco, Various Artists, that honors Louisiana’s Zydeco traditions

The regional roots category was created in 2012, after combining Best Hawaiian Music Album, Best Zydeco/Cajun Music Album, and Best Native American Music Album. However, the category involves additional genres, such as conjunto, second line brass, polka, and go-go music.

While Louisiana dominated the regional roots category, it wasn’t the only area where the Bayou State stood out.

Baskin native Lainey Wilson notched nominations for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song.

New Orleans music legend, Jean Batiste, garnered three Grammy nominations: Best American Roots Performance, Best American Roots Song, and Best Americana Album.

In contemporary Christian music, New Orleans’ PJ Morton earned nominations for Best Contemporary Christian Music Song and Best Gospel Album.

Louisiana blues musicians Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Bobby Rush, and Samantha Fish all received nominations across varying blues categories.
