Louisiana National Guard to remain in Texas through November

Landry Operation Lone Star
Office of the Governor of the State of Louisiana

The Louisiana National Guard’s tour of duty along the United States/Mexico border in Texas will continue for another four months.

Governor Jeff Landry announced on Monday that the Louisiana National Guard’s participation in Operation Lone Star has been extended through mid-November. Senate President Cameron Henry, House Speaker Phillip Devillier, National Guard Brigadier General Thomas Friloux, and Governor Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Director Jacques Thibodeaux all offered their support for the extension.

Louisiana will send engineer soldiers to the border to assist Texas authorities in their attempt to keep undocumented immigrants from entering the United States.

The Louisiana National Guard’s initial three-month mission ended on Sunday. It cost the state $2.2 million out of $3 million allocated by state officials for the operation. The state will spend the remainder of the $800,000 of that allocation for the expanded mission.
