Is congressional redistricting becoming less about representative democracy and more about scoring partisan points? The upcoming redistricting debate in Baton Rouge could be messy.

Political veteran Ron Faucheux says it seems like politics has gone from a full contact sport to a blood sport.

"This is an endless issue, here," said Faucheux. "As partisanship has gone from being vigorous to homicidal, we're now in a situation where each side is trying to destroy the other side."

Several states have re-drawn their districts just in the last couple of years to give a partisan advantage to one side or the other, and veteran political analyst Faucheux says partisanship only seems to be getting more extreme.

"If partisanship is all you're looking at, the control of state government can have a big impact on how many house seats there are for either party," he said.

Louisiana lawmakers are set to begin the districting debate that could change the party break-down of the state's congressional delegation.
