A Louisiana woman took to TikTok recently with a legitimate gripe about her local police force and came away with an apology and a revoked citation after the video went viral.
Casey LaCaze-Lachney voiced her rebuttal in the video as she showed off the outfit she was wearing when police gave her a ticket for indecent exposure, a crop top and a pair of jean shorts that wouldn’t look out of place on any hot summer day in the south.
The citation was issued while LaCaze-Lachney was attending an outdoor festival in the small town of Winnfield.
“At a family event, where there is alcohol being literally handed out for free… three female cops came up to me and gave me a f–king ticket,” she said in the video while showing off the ticket.
After the video was viewed millions of times by TikTok users, the Winnfield Police Department first responded with an ill-received Facebook post grousing about LaCaze-Lachney’s public complaint having a “negative impact on the service of our police officers.”
Winnfield police “responded to various complaints about the person’s attire and the person of interest was issued a citation under the city ordinance,” the post stated but was quickly answered with heavy sarcasm in the comment section.
According to the Shreveport Times, LaCaze-Lachney and her lawyer met with Winnfield Police Chief Ray Carpenter and city attorney Herman Castete and received acknowledgement that the outfit she was wearing did not break any laws.
While the three officers who issued the citation failed to turn on their body cameras, LaCaze-Lachney was reportedly able to present video footage shot by a third party that proved the outfit from her TikTok complaint was the very same thing she wore that day at the festival.
Afterwards, she posted a new video to TikTok saying she respected Carpenter for apologizing.
