Should most or all of the draft opinion end up in the Supreme Court's final decision, a local law expert says Louisiana will be one of the most restrictive states when it comes to abortion.

Loyola Law professor Dane Ciolino says whatever the ruling, Louisiana will likely enact laws right up to the limit of whatever the ruling says.

"Louisiana will have some of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country," he said, "and those restrictive laws will go into effect shortly after this opinion becomes final," he said.

Louisiana and some other states have passed what's known as a "trigger law" -- should the Roe v. Wade decision be nullified by either the Supreme Court or a constitutional amendment, abortion in the state would be forbidden with the only exception being when the mother's life is at risk.

Ciolino the final opinion, and its dissents, are still be drafted, and may look different than what was publicized overnight.
