Louisiana State Police released dash cam and body-worn camera video Friday of a trooper fatally shooting a suspect in Lafourche Parish earlier this month.
The videos show what happened on Monday Sep. 8 when troopers attempted to stop a truck on Bull Run Road occupied by 31-year-old Darien Riffe and 46-year-old John Parfait, both of whom were subjects in a narcotics investigation.
The attempted stop happened at a gas station, but the driver, identified by troopers as Parfait, sped off with state police units in pursuit.
After hitting speeds of 100 miles per hour, the truck pulled over and the passenger, identified as Riffe, fled on foot into a nearby pasture.
Riffe ignored orders to stop running or be tased. State police say he then drew a gun. That's when the trooper switched from his Taser to his firearm, firing multiple times.
After backup arrived, troopers then approached Riffe and found a gun in his hand. The video shows them removing the gun and giving Riffe chest compressions while waiting for paramedics, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.
Troopers say Parfait continued fleeing in the pickup until crashing into a car on LA 1, and then attempted to flee by jumping in Bayou Lafourche.
Troopers arrested Parfait and the incident remains under investigation.
