Cops say a Kentwood man is dead after slamming his truck into a tree.
"Shortly before 10:00 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 1058 near LA Hwy 1059 in Tangipahoa Parish," Trooper William Huggins said in a news release.
He says 44-year-old Mervin Briggs died at the scene.
"The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Briggs was northbound on LA Hwy 1058 in a 2015 Ram 3500. For reasons still under investigation, Briggs lost control of the Ram, traveled off the roadway, and impacted a tree."
Huggins says Briggs was not wearing a seatbelt.
"While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash."
