LSU baseball might have found its replacement for Steven Milam, as the Tigers have received a commitment from former Texas State shortstop Dawson Park.
During his sophomore campaign with the Bobcats, Park hit .301 with 13 home runs and 52 RBI’s. That’s a big jump from his freshman campaign, when he only hit .219 with 2 home runs and 19 RBIs as the team’s primary second baseman.
He’s also an outstanding defender (committed 10 errors as a sophomore at shortstop) and someone who could be a high draft pick in the 2027 MLB draft.
But Park did not finish his sophomore season at Texas State. After flying out in a game in early May, Park got into a verbal altercation with a teammate in the dugout. A coach escorted Park away, and a few days later, he was no longer with the team.
This could be looked at as a red flag. But it’s hard to imagine Coach Jay Johnson is going to bring a player into the program who has an attitude problem.
What Johnson might be seeing in Park is a fiery competitor with a chip on his shoulder, something that might have been lacking from the 2026 team.
After hitting .305 and 30 home runs and only committing 14 errors during his career at LSU, Milam is expected to sign with a Major League Baseball team after he was drafted.
But if Milam returns for his senior season, Park is someone who could also start at second or third base.
Park is the second addition to the LSU roster through the transfer portal. The Tigers also got a commitment from former Gonzaga right-hander Landon Hood, who was the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year.
