That garbage truck, wedged nearly on its side against a support structure at the I-10/Carrollton Ave./Airline Highway interchange is still there, though Louisiana highway officials say work to remove it should begin next week.

However, a Department of Transportation and Development official told WWL-TV that removing the truck and reopening the affected sections of the interchange are two different jobs.

"We're looking at three months. It could be longer," said DoTD official Scott Boyle. "We're going to have to redesign that repair. That's going to take a team to design that."

DoTD says the ramp from S. Carrollton to I-10 West will reopen as soon as the truck is safely removed, estimated for around June 13. But because of the damage to the supports for the Airline Hwy. ramp from I-10, they will have to evaluate how to best repair it.

Boyle said that means there is a process they must follow.

"We're going to have to put it out for bid. It's going to have to be constructed. So we're looking at least three months," he said.

In the meantime, the on-ramp to I-10 West towards Metairie from South Carrollton Ave. is closed, and the off-ramp to Airline Highway from I-10 West is also closed.
