The search is over for a suspected hit-and-run driver who allegedly ran over an eight-year-old child.
The crash happened Sunday at about 6:40 p.m. in the 600 block of Vintage Drive near Kenner City Park.
According to Kenner Police, the child was driving a battery-powered bicycle and attempted to cross Vintage Drive when they were hit by the vehicle and suffered a fractured skull.

That is when, police say, 43-year-old Juan Orellana, struck the child with his Jeep. Immediately after the crash; witnesses said Orellana got out of his Jeep, saw the child lying on the ground behind the vehicle, then got back in and drove away according to police. A witness followed the driver and took a picture of his vehicle as he was fleeing the scene.
“Officers later located the vehicle parked in front of a residence in the South Lake subdivision,” says a Kenner Police Lieutenant Michael Cunningham. “Based on the witness’s description of the suspect and evidence found on the vehicle in front of the residence, the owner of the vehicle was arrested.”
Orellana was arrested and charged with Hit and Run with Serious Bodily Injury.
