A Washington Parish jury has convicted a Hammond man for a deadly shooting that stemmed from an armed robbery.

The jury found Travon Washington, 21, guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Xykie Barker. Washington is one of three people that prosecutors say lured Barker out of his home before ambushing him and firing 20 shots at him, hitting eight times, including once in the head and once in the heart. Washington, Deanna Johnson, and a third suspect fled the scene with Barker's guns, keys, a gaming system. Washington crashed the getaway car, allowing police to arrest him shortly after the robbery and shooting.

Prosecutors pointed to text messages found on an iWatch as proof that that Washington, Johnson, and the third suspect set up Barker and planned the ambush.

Johnson pleaded guilty to manslaughter for her role in the robbery and shooting before trial began on Monday. She received a 50-year prison sentence. Prosecutors did not say what the status of the third suspect is.

Washington faces a mandatory life sentence when he's sentenced on April 8. He is also awaiting another trial for a separate murder case in which he's accused of gunning down a 14-year-old girl in Tangipahoa Parish.
