Louisiana State Police now say the man a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriffs Deputy shot Thursday night had stabbed a woman.
She died. He is hospitalized.
"TPSO deputies responded to a residence on Labruzza Lane in Independence following a 911 call reporting a domestic violence incident involving a stabbing victim," Trooper Marc Gremillion wrote in a news release.
He says when cops got there, they found forty-three-year-old Cornelius King Sr. had barricaded himself inside the home.
"During the encounter, a deputy discharged their service weapon, striking King. King was transported to a local hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment."
Gremillion says that 48-year-old Elaine Davis of Hammond was also transported to a local hospital after the incident.
"Davis sustained injuries during the domestic violence incident and later succumbed to those injuries."
King now faces second-degree murder charges.
"King will be booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail upon his release from the hospital."
