Cops were called to the Twins Spans overnight after a car burst into flames.

"Shortly before 1:00 a.m. today (09/27/24) police responded to a report of a vehicle on fire on Interstate 10 eastbound," Sgt. Barry Fletcher said in an email. "Responding officers found what appears to be a one-vehicle collision with the adult male occupant of the vehicle unresponsive."

Reports from the scene indicate the driver got out of the burning car, and was hit by a passing motorist.

"New Orleans EMS confirmed the victim was deceased."

Fletcher says crews wanted to make sure no one else was hit and thrown into the lake.

"Saint Tammany Parish authorities have dispatched a boat to check the waters under the elevated highway for additional victims or evidence."

NOPD reopened the interstate just before 4:00am.

At last report police had not found the driver that hit and killed the man.
