According to Louisiana State Police, shortly after 2:30 am today, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-10 West on the Bonnet Carre Spillway Bridge in St. Charles Parish.
The crash claimed the life of an unidentified driver.
Troopers say the initial investigation revealed that a 2019 International box truck was traveling west on I-10 near in the right lane when at the same time, a 2012 Toyota Prius driven by an unidentified driver was in the right lane of I-10 west as the driver approached the rear of the box truck.
For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Toyota failed to stop and the front of the Toyota crashed into the rear of the box truck and burst into flames.
The driver of the Toyota was killed in the crash.
Impairment on the part of both drivers is unknown and routine toxicology results are pending. This crash remains under investigation but investigators suspect speed was a contributing factor to the crash.
