A Facebook post by the Hammond Police Department describes a tragic situation, a man appears to have been crushed by a garbage truck compactor. Preliminary findings indicate that he likely had fallen asleep inside the dumpster, potentially to escape the cold, windy overnight conditions, but was killed Tuesday when the compactor was activated.
The man has been identified as 42-year-old Jermain Watts of Hammond. No foul play is currently suspected by a final autopsy and a toxicology report is pending.
