New Orleans Police homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting in the 3700 block of Texas Drive.
Police say shortly before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers were sent to investigate a call of a man down in that location.
"EMS arrived on scene and declared the subject to be deceased," said police in a statement. "At that time, the incident was deemed an unclassified death."
But examination by the coroner's office quickly revealed wrongful death.
"During autopsy, it was found that the victim had sustained a gunshot wound," police said. "Upon this discovery, the incident was reclassified as a homicide and NOPD Homicide Section detectives assumed command of the investigation."
