Troopers say a pedestrian died after he was hit by a pickup truck in Slidell late Wednesday night.
"At approximately 11:45 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on US Hwy 11 near 5th Avenue in St. Tammany Parish," Trooper Marc Gremillion said in a news release.
He says 61-year-old Samuel Harris Jr. of Slidell died at the scene.
"The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Nissan Titan was traveling northbound on US Hwy 11. At the same time, Harris was walking in the northbound lane of US Hwy 11. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan struck Harris in the northbound lane."
Gremillion says that a routine toxicology sample was obtained from both Harris and the driver of the Nissan for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
