Man killed, woman critically wounded after second line parade

NOPD

Cops say gunfire erupted after a Central City second line Sunday.

"The NOPD is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred today (September 26, 2021) in the 2300 block of Josephine Street," Public Information Officer Paris Holmes said in an email. "At around 5:02 p.m., the 'Young Men Olympian' Social Aid and Pleasure Club Annual Parade was ending when officers on detail heard and responded to shots fired at the location."

Police found a 38-year-old man suffering with multiple gunshot wounds.

"He was pronounced dead on the scene."

Holmes says another victim, a 67-year-old woman, was shot in the face.

"She was transported to the hospital and is currently in critical condition."

The parade has been an annual tradition for more than 135 years.

"Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Homicide Unit Detective Nick Davis at 504-658-5300 or call anonymously to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP."
