Gunfire rang out Tuesday night near the corner of Loyola Avenue and Louisiana Avenue.

"Members of the New Orleans Police Department are investigating a shooting that left an unknown male dead," NOPD said in a news release. "The offense occurred shortly after 8:30."

Officers responded to a call of a shooting and found a male in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds to his body.

"Emergency Medical Technicians pronounced the male dead on scene."

Murder continues to spike in the city with initial figures showing 200 so far in 2022.

The Metro Crime Commission says homicide is up 136% relative to 2019 and 42% higher than the same time in 2021.

There were ten murders just this past weekend.
