A man was killed early this morning in a crash involving an electric bicycle.
"The NOPD is investigating a... fatality at the intersection of St. Charles Avenue and Robert Street," Senior Public Information Officer Aaron Looney wrote.
The scene is between Napoleon Avenue and Jefferson Avenue.
"The victim was transported for treatment of injuries and was later declared deceased."
Looney says it happened shortly before 4:00am.
He initially said police believed the incident was a hit and run, but later sent an email to correct that information.
"Upon further investigation, this signal for this incident has been changed to a traffic fatality. A hit-and-run crash was found not to have occurred. The crash is believed to have solely involved the victim."
Police now believe the rider hit a curb, flew off the e-bike and died from his injuries.
