Police in New Orleans are investigating a fatal stabbing that happened in the early morning hours on Tuesday at the intersection of Canal and Carondelet streets.
According to an NOPD report, “At about 1:23 a.m., NOPD Eighth District officers responded to an initial call of an aggravated battery by cutting at the location. Upon arrival and through investigation, they learned that the victim – an adult male - and the perpetrator – an unknown black male – were reportedly involved in a physical altercation. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds and the suspect fled. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.”
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and release an official cause of death after the completion of autopsy.

Stabbings are on the rise in New Orleans. According to the New Orleans City Council’s Crime Dashboard, stabbings in the Central Business District are up 128% over last year. Making for 16 stabbings in 2021 compared to seven stabbings in 2020.
