A man accused of killing a 4-year-old girl left in his care at a New Orleans hotel, is arrested in Houma.
According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, sheriff’s deputies along with Houma Police, and United States Marshalls, captured 21-year-old Anfernee Steele at an apartment in Village East area on Monday.

Steele had an active warrant in New Orleans for the death of Jo'nyri Hawkins on October 3rd.
New Orleans Police say Steele was supervising the 4-year-old and other children at the Sheraton hotel in downtown New Orleans while their mother was out for the night.
Police reports say the mother returned to find the child limp and unresponsive. Steele allegedly told police the child slipped in the bathtub but a pathologist report says the child had blunt-force injuries and signs of physical abuse.

New Orleans Police obtained a warrant for Steele’s arrest and a manhunt was underway. Agents with the three agencies found Steele at an apartment on Monday.
He is charged with 2nd Degree Murder and 2nd Degree Cruelty To A Juvenile.
