A mass shooting in north Louisiana twisted what should have been a jubilant Independence Day celebration into something much darker on Tuesday.

According to Shreveport Police, at least 10 people were injured including three fatalities after a mass shooting incident.

Two of the victims died at the scene while a third was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital for treatment, according to Shreveport Police Lt. Van Ray.

The shooting marred an annual July 4th block party.

“I am livid at what has happened here,” Shreveport District A Councilwoman Tabitha Taylor told reporters at the scene. “People running for their lives, children running for their lives, homes, and lives that have been disrupted. Um, earlier you probably didn't hear that. We heard families crying and screaming on the street.”

“Now we are the victim of a mass shooting in our community simply because individuals decided to come in and disrupt a good time that individuals were having,” she continued. “A family event that has gone on for years in our community has been disrupted by gunfire because somebody decided to pull their guns and do this. Why, why? My other choice words cannot be articulated on camera.”
