As the news of the historic indictment against Mayor Latoya Cantrell continues to send shockwaves, the mayor was a no-show for a high
profile event for the Gulf Coast region.
The mayor's indictment is a first for a sitting mayor and alleges she and her former NOPD bodyguard Jeffrey Vappie embarked on an affair and a scheme to take out of town trips on the taxpayers dime to the tune of seventy thousand dollars.
Her absence at the Amtrak Mardi Gras train line unveiling was not surprising though says political analyst Clancy Dubos.
As he told WWL-TV, though it's understandable not to be seen 24 hours after indictment, Mayor Cantrell shouldn't hide forever.
"It was probably good PR advise not to stand before any media a day after an indictment announcement, but I don't think she should avoid public appearance for the rest of her term."
