Her plan includes a three-prong approach, Prevention, Apprehension, and Intervention.

“Public safety has been a priority for this administration since Day One,” said Cantrell. “With these initiatives, we continue to work on preventing crime by investing more in more services, opportunities, and development programs for youth, families, and communities to reduce violent crime.”

The mayor’s plan comes as the city, like other cities across the country, face a surge in violent crime.

In New Orleans, murder, carjackings, and shootings have become a daily occurrence.

According to New Orleans City Council’s Crime Dashboard, there have been 78 murders in the city so far. That is a 16% increase over last year’s 67 murders.

Armed robbery is also skyrocketing across the city. So far, there have been 197 incidents of armed robbery, making a 22% increase over 2020 crime data.
