Mayor-elect Helena Moreno sent a list of demands to the department of homeland security amid immigration enforcement sweeps in the area.

Many have feared the tactics of federal agents and question their legality. Moreno told WWL-TV she wants transparency from the agency, including enforcement officers removing their masks.

"If your operation is so successful and it really is about targeting very violent people, then release the information and be accountable and transparent."

Her letter, sent Friday, demanded that federal agents be more transparent about New Orleans-area immigration sweeps.

She also demanded that agents remove masks and show clear identification when enforcing federal laws, show clear probable cause for their arrests, provide legal representation and medical care to detainees and allow detainees to notify their families.

The letter also asked for more safeguards against racial profiling.
