New Orleans mayor-elect Helena Moreno is set to make a major announcement about her administration, reportedly naming her fellow councilmember, Joe Giarrusso, the job of Chief Administrative Officer.
Political Clancy DuBos says it is a good hire.
"The CAO is the most important hire of any mayor," said DuBos, explaining that it is the Chief Administrative Officer that acts as the city's manager, in charge of day-to-day operations.
DuBos says Giarrusso has a good reputation in city hall.
"He is not only one of the most popular public officials in the city but he is one of those that everybody trusts and respects," DuBos said. "No one has ever questioned his integrity or his intentions and we need something like that now more than ever."
Giarrusso was term-limited from running for reelection to the District A seat, and had said he was returning to the private sector. But he has spent the past few weeks working in his capacity as the council's budget committee chairman to help see the city through its financial crisis. Now Moreno is asking for his help in negotiating its aftermath.
