Mayor LaToya Cantrell will hold a press conference next week to address Mardi Gras parade routes for the 2022 iteration of the celebration.
According to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate Cantrell is considering a single route to hold the parades on.
Most likely that will be St. Charles Avenue.
A majority of the parades already use St. Charles Avenue and begin either at Jefferson or Napoleon Avenues and march down to Canal Street.
Parades held on alternate routes would need to move over to St. Charles if they are going march, should the Mayor decide on the single route.
This includes parades for Zulu, which follows its own path through Central City using Jackson Avenue before turning at St. Charles and continuing downtown.
Endymion is another, which has a winding long parade route through Uptown before turning onto St. Charles for its run into downtown.
And NOMOTOC, which is located on the Westbank in Algiers, could end up having to cross the bridge to be able to present their parade.
This isn’t the first time parades have been consolidated on St. Charles, during Mardi Gras following Hurricane Katrina crewes marched on St. Charles exclusively except for Zulu which stuck to its traditional routing.
And detouring a parade has also taken place, both Endymion and Zulu were routed around the collapse site at Rampart and Canal where the former Hard Rock Hotel structure stood.
