Mayor Cantrell – who are you are honoring by abusing public assets?
“If you take your stinking hands off the public assets, nobody gives a damn what you do in your private life,” said WWL’s Newell Normand in his latest reprimand of New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell.
Normand was upset, as he has been in the past, about the mayor’s spending.
According to a report this week from Fox 8, her use of an extensive police security detail during the Essence Festival, has brought the most recent criticism of Cantrell’s spending habits.
Per the report, her security detail outnumbered police presence in some districts.
“At this point, FOX 8’s obsession with this Mayor and her whereabouts is intrusive and continues to prove their lack of morals and ethics as a media entity,” said a statement provided to Fox 8 by Cantrell’s camp.
“It seems like things continue to get worse as it relates to the Cantrell administration,” said Normand. “You know, there are times where I just feel like I really don’t want to talk about this anymore. But you can’t help it. I mean, because it just gets worse.”
By now, he thinks it’s clear that Cantrell is just in the job for its perks and that she doesn’t care about the people of New Orleans. Normand pointed to the incongruity of her security presence with crime and NOPD issues plaguing the city.
“You have to wonder the thought process of an individual that believes that she is the center of the New Orleans universe,” he said. Listen to his full rundown on the subject here.
