Two months out from the qualification deadline, the race for New Orleans mayor is starting to take shape. Unless a surprise candidate jumps in, it looks like the field is set.

Political Analyst Clancy Dubos says those who were rumored to run have already made statements.

"As for big or well-known names, they have either announced their campaign, like councilpersons Moreno and Thomas, or have said they do not plan to run, like Senator Royce Duplesis."

Dubos says it’s likely the final roster is nearly complete unless a dark horse shakes things up late in the game.

"It is possible though not probable for a late but well known entry."

He says, however, there is usually chatter in political circles when someone is thinking about throwing their hat in the ring, but there haven't been any such whispers.

"There will be those who will enter the race that don't have as much notoriety, but as for well-known names, I think we already have those who are willing."

Dubos says the focus now will shift to each candidate's vision for the future of New Orleans.
