Virgil Maxey "V.M." Wheeler III, a Roman Catholic deacon from Metairie, has been arrested and charged with sexual battery and indecent behavior with a juvenile, The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports.
Archbishop Gregory Aymond suspended Wheeler seven months ago over the accusations, which allege that Wheeler showered with a pre-teen boy and performed oral sex on him two decades ago.
Wheeler surrendered to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office this afternoon, according to his attorney.
