Louisiana State Police say a Metairie woman was not wearing her seatbelt when she crashed into an overpass pillar on Interstate 10. That crash, troopers say, ultimately claimed the woman's life.
It happened around 12:45 a.m. Saturday on I-10 West near Causeway Boulevard.
According to investigators, a state trooper say Selenta James drive off the highway and into the median. The trooper, who believed James may have been suffering from a medical emergency, stopped and tried to get into James car to help her. That’s when, investigators say, James hit the gas and hit the concrete overpass pillar.
James, 49, later died at a hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
