Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's detectives say they have solved a five-and-a-half year old missing persons investigation, and it's now a first degree murder case.
The sheriff's office says it was October 2018 when 45-year-old Larondell Esko was reported missing. Investigators were unable to find him, but last month, a complete review of the case uncovered new leads that led them to 37-year-old Glen Rodriguez and 25-year-old Ashlee Cantrelle.
Police say after substantiating the new information via "technological means," they brought Rodriguez and Cantrelle in for questioning. Detectives say that resulted in the pair admitting to being involved in Esko's death.
On April 5 and 6, investigators searched property they believe to be linked to Rodriguez and Cantrelle at the time of Esko's disappearance. During the search, the sheriff's office drained a small pond and discovered human remains, which they suspect is Esko's body.
Deputies booked Rodriguez and Cantrelle on charges of first degree murder and obstruction of justice. The investigation remains open and ongoing.
