In his final news conference of 2020, Governor John Bel Edwards announces more vaccines will arrive next week and administered to the next eligible group of people.
“Today, on New Year’s Eve, we can confirm that we will receive significant supply of the Moderna vaccine next week to begin making the vaccine available to priority groups here in Louisiana,” Governor Edwards said at a press conference on Thursday.
Edwards says the next group to be vaccinated will be residents 70 years old or older, ambulance workers, and outpatient healthcare workers.
Edwards says these eligible individuals are in a group called priority group ‘1B’ where frontline workers such as first responders and healthcare workers already receiving the vaccine are in priority group ‘1A’.
“Starting on Monday, approximately 100 local pharmacies across Louisiana will begin receiving their very first limited doses of the Moderna covid-vaccine to begin vaccinating these priority groups,” said Edwards.
“And over time, we fully expect the number of doses will increase dramatically,” added Edwards.
