Helena Moreno is officially running to be New Orleans's next mayor.
According to our partners at NOLA.com, Moreno filed paperwork with the Louisiana Ethics Board to begin fundraising for the campaign. This makes Moreno the first candidate to enter officially the race to succeed LaToya Cantrell as New Orleans's chief executive. Cantrell's term ends in January 2026. The primary election is scheduled for October 11, 2025. The general election, if necessary, will take place on November 15, 2025.
Right now. Moreno is in her second term as an at-large city councilmember. Before that, Moreno was a member of the state house of representatives.
