New Orleans Mayor-elect Helena Moreno pledged to be a "24/7 mayor" for the Crescent City as she delivered her election night victory speech Saturday.
The former TV news investigative reporter who entered politics after Hurricane Katrina bested a dozen other candidates to win the election in the city's jungle primary.
Moreno is the second woman and first Hispanic to win the city's highest office.
"This campaign has really been about moving our city in a new direction," Moreno told the crowd at her election night gathering. "Because we can't keep doing things the same way and expect to have different results."
She takes the reins from LaToya Cantrell in January. Cantrell leaves office due to term limits and under the cloud of a federal criminal indictment.
Moreno, 48, will inherit a city that has lost population over the last several years, and will take office
