New Orleans City Council Vice President Helena Moreno says she will not vote in favor of any nominee for New Orleans Police Superintendent unless the council gets more information about six semifinalist and the process the International Association of Chiefs of Police used for selecting them.
In a letter to New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, Moreno said the council must receive "the resumes of all 6 finalists, scores from IACP on the finalists, and an explanation from IACP as to how they narrowed the list of 33 to these 6 finalists."
Moreno said transparency in the selection of a new chief has been lacking.
"It is critical we understand why IACP determined these 6 finalists were the best out of the 33," said Moreno, concluding: "I urge you to work with IACP, who you have contracted with to do this search, to provide the Council with information I have requested immediately."
