Is the mayor of New Orleans ignoring the city council's demands to stop using a city-owned apartment for her own purposes?

Council President JP Morrell says Mayor Latoya Cantrell is essentially giving the people of New Orleans the finger.

"Flip off the public, flip off the council."

He says that the mayor reportedly resuming use of the Pontalba apartment in the French Quarter is an abuse of power.

"It's offensive on a variety of levels."

Morrell tells WWL's Newell Normand that there will be an active, swift effort to "take away" Cantrell's use of the Pontalba.

His goal is "to get the public back in control of the city and not having a mayor being a king of the city or queen of the city.

The council president says her action comes despite public outcry and a council passed ban on personal use of the Jackson square residence.

"It's a complete mess... this entire situation is a complete and unadulterated mess."

Morrell says Cantrell also pulled cops off public safety and crime fighting to provide a motorcycle escort for her during the Essence Fest.
