Trooper say a man is dead after turning his motorcycle in front of a car trying to pass him.

"Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle crash on LA 43 near Haynes Settlement Road in Livingston Parish," Trooper Shelby Mayfield said in a news release.

It happened shortly before 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

"The crash claimed the life of 57-year-old Earl Duncan of Springfield, Louisiana."

Mayfield says the driver of the car was trying to get around the motorcycle.

"Duncan was traveling north on LA 43 on a 1999 Honda motorcycle. At the same time, a 2024 Cadillac XT6 was also traveling north on LA 43 and attempted to pass the motorcycle in a legal passing zone."

She says just at the driver of the Cadillac was about to pass Duncan, the motorcyclist veered in the car's path.

"For reasons still under investigation, the motorcycle turned left into the path of the Cadillac, resulting in a collision."

Duncan died on the scene.

"He was wearing a DOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash."

She says that while they do not suspect impairment, routine toxicology samples will be submitted for analysis.

"This crash remains under investigation."
