Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto says four people are dead after gunfire on the Westbank this morning. He identified the victims as a 14-year-old male, a 20-year-old male, a mother and a father. He says it was apparently a murder-suicide.
The sheriff identified the 14-year-old as the son of the two adults. He said the 20-year-old was their son/step-son.
Lopinto says they got a 911 call just before the shooting started.
" 'The dogs in backyard... we can't live like this anymore... you'll find four bodies when you get here.' And that's what we found."
The animal shelter picked up the dog.
"The house is pretty deplorable inside... there are some notes along with weapons that indicate it looks like it is going to be some type of murder-suicide either by one or by two."
Lopinto says the family was having money issues.
"It looked like financial problems and stuff have led to a destitute situation, and the took into their own hands -unfortunately - this morning."
Cops had closed off Curtis Street between 10th Street and 11th Street. "The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is currently working a shooting scene with multiple victims in the 1100 block of Curtis St. in Harvey," Captain Jason Rivarde initially said.
