The City of New Orleans permanently shuts down its first warehouse bar for allegedly violating the city’s modified Phase Two guidelines.
City officials issued a Cease-and-Desist Order to Republic NOLA Bar on 828 S. Peters Street, Monday evening, which permanently shuts it down until the city says it can reopen.
City officials accuse Republic NOLA Bar of hosting more than 250 people inside the bar on Sunday, Feb. 28, at around 12:15 a.m.
Officials also say, most of the attendees reportedly failed to wear facial coverings, and bartenders were found serving alcohol past the 11 p.m. curfew.
According to a city statement; Deputy Director of Code Enforcement, Winston Reid, found the warehouse district bar to be non-compliant with the modified Phase Two guidelines, which went into effect at 6 a.m. Friday, February 26.
The cease-and-desist order means Republic NOLA Bar can not reopen unless they submit a written request asking for the city’s permission to reopen.
The bar also must submit a plan to the director of New Orleans Safety and Permits Department, outlining compliance with New Orleans Health Department and Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s modified Phase Two guidelines.
