A U.S. Postal Service letter carrier is accused of throwing away over 1700 pieces of mail according to the Department of Justice.
According to court documents, Sierra Hudson, 34, worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in New Orleans. In November she was indicted with one count for delay or destruction of mail.
The DOJ says from May 2020 through July 2020 Hudson took 640 First Class postcards, 573 pieces of political mail and threw them away in a residential trash can. They say she also hid 535 advertising flyers and 20 nonprofit letters in the trunk of her personal vehicle.
If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum penalty of up to five years in federal prison. The DOJ did not give a motive for her allegedly delaying or discarding the mail.
