Neutral ground parking is in effect in New Orleans because of the threat of severe thunderstorms and potential street flooding.
According to the New Orleans City Government’s Streetwise application, neutral ground parking will be allowed in the city until 10 a.m. Tuesday. City officials say heavy rains could inundate low-lying areas, necessitating the order.
A heavy line of thunderstorms will push its way through southeastern Louisiana late tonight and into early Tuesday morning. Already, that band of storms has resulted in a tornado warning for St. Tammany Parish and severe thunderstorm warnings for Jefferson and Orleans Parishes. Another storm system is expected to dump even more rain on the New Orleans Metro Area during the day on Tuesday.
